Udaipur to Rishabhadev Cabs

Udaipur to Rishabhadev Cabs

Rishabhadev – also written Rikhabdeo, and known to pilgrims as Kesariyaji – sits about 65 km south of Udaipur on the Ahmedabad highway, roughly an hour and a half away. The temple there is dedicated to Rishabhdev, the first Jain Tirthankara, and the idol is carved from black stone, which is why it is also called Kala Baba.

What makes the shrine unusual is who worships there. It is a major Jain pilgrimage site, but it is also deeply revered by the local Bhil and Meena tribal communities, who know the deity as Kalaji and have their own long tradition of worship at it. Few temples in Rajasthan are shared quite so completely across communities.

At the Temple

The name Kesariyaji comes from kesar – saffron – which devotees offer to the idol in large quantities, and the shrine is often described as being covered in it. The temple complex is a walled enclosure with the main shrine at its centre and smaller shrines around it, and the architecture is plainer than Ranakpur or Dilwara; the significance here is devotional rather than architectural.

Practical notes: dress modestly, leather items are generally not permitted inside, and photography may be restricted in the inner shrine. Darshan timings follow a morning and evening pattern with a midday break, and they shift with the season, so it is worth checking for your date. The annual Kesariyaji fair draws very large crowds, mostly from the tribal communities of the region, and the town is a different place entirely during it.

Combining the Trip

Rishabhadev is a half day on its own. Two ways people extend it:

  • As a stop on the way to Ahmedabad. It is directly on the NH48 corridor south, so it costs you an hour and a half rather than a separate day. See our Udaipur to Ahmedabad taxi page.
  • With Jaisamand Lake. About 50 km east of Rishabhadev, Jaisamand is one of the largest artificial lakes in Asia, with an island and a wildlife sanctuary. The two together make a full and unhurried day south of Udaipur.

For the Jain temple circuit proper, Ranakpur north of Udaipur is the architectural highlight – see our Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur day tour.

Frequently Asked Questions: Udaipur to Rishabhadev Cabs

Distance, darshan timings, the names the shrine goes by.

How far is Rishabhadev from Udaipur?
About 65 km south, roughly an hour and a half on the NH48 corridor towards Ahmedabad.
What is Rishabhadev temple known for?
It is dedicated to Rishabhdev, the first Jain Tirthankara, with an idol carved from black stone. Devotees offer saffron in large quantities, which is where the name Kesariyaji comes from. It is also significant to the local Bhil and Meena tribal communities, who worship the deity as Kalaji.
Is Rishabhadev the same as Kesariyaji?
Yes. The same shrine is known as Rishabhadev, Rikhabdeo, Kesariyaji and Dhulev, depending on who is speaking. If you are booking a taxi, any of those names will get you to the right place.
How much is a cab from Udaipur to Rishabhadev?
Quoted on our per-kilometre rates – from ₹12/km for a sedan, ₹16/km for an Ertiga or Innova – with fuel, driver allowance, state tax and toll included. A half-day round trip with waiting is the usual booking; call +91 86193 15547 for your date.
Can the driver wait during darshan?
Yes. On a round trip the driver waits at the temple parking area, so you are not searching for a return cab in a small town. Waiting time is included in the round-trip quote.
What are the darshan timings?
Morning and evening, with a midday break, and the exact hours shift seasonally. It is worth checking for your date, and telling us which slot you are aiming for so we can set the pickup time to match rather than guessing.
Can I visit Rishabhadev on the way to Ahmedabad?
Yes, and it is the most efficient way to see it. The temple sits on the NH48 corridor south, so it adds an hour and a half to an Udaipur–Ahmedabad transfer rather than needing a day of its own.
What should I wear and what can I carry?
Dress modestly. Leather items are generally not permitted inside the shrine, and photography may be restricted in the inner sanctum. Lockers or a secure place to leave items are usually available at the complex.
What else is worth seeing nearby?
Jaisamand Lake, about 50 km east, is one of the largest artificial lakes in Asia and has an island and a wildlife sanctuary. Rishabhadev and Jaisamand together make a comfortable full day south of Udaipur.
How do I book a Udaipur to Rishabhadev cab?
WhatsApp +91 99838 89373 or email rajasthanonwheeltours@gmail.com with your date, pickup time and address, passenger count and whether you want a round trip with waiting or a drop en route to Ahmedabad.
