Delhi Sightseeing Tour Package
Delhi Sightseeing Tour Package by Private Car
Delhi is really three cities stacked on each other – the Mughal capital around the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, the medieval ruins of Mehrauli and Hauz Khas, and the colonial plan of New Delhi. They are 20 km apart in heavy traffic, which is why a Delhi sightseeing tour by private car with a driver gets you through four or five sites in a day where public transport manages two.
Our driver handles the traffic, the parking and the one-way systems, and waits at each monument while you go in. Pickup is from any hotel, from Delhi airport or from the railway station.

Old Delhi: the Mughal City
Red Fort. Shah Jahan’s fort and the seat of Mughal power for two centuries. Closed on Mondays. Allow 1.5–2 hours.
Jama Masjid. India’s largest mosque, finished in 1656, with a courtyard that holds 25,000 people. Climbing the southern minaret gives the best view over Old Delhi. Modest dress required, and it closes to visitors during prayers.
Chandni Chowk. The bazaar beside the mosque – spice market, silver, paratha lane. A cycle rickshaw through the lanes is the right way to see it, and better than trying to take a car in.
Raj Ghat. Gandhi’s cremation memorial, a black marble platform in a quiet garden. 30 minutes.
New Delhi and South Delhi
India Gate and Rajpath. The war memorial to 70,000 Indian soldiers of the First World War, on the ceremonial axis past the President’s House. A drive-through and a photo stop.
Humayun’s Tomb. The first great Mughal garden tomb, 1570, and the building the Taj Mahal descends from directly. UNESCO listed, and far quieter than it deserves to be. Allow 1.5 hours.
Qutub Minar. A 73-metre victory tower from 1193, the tallest brick minaret in the world, standing in a complex of ruins that includes the 1,600-year-old Iron Pillar. Allow 1.5 hours.
Lotus Temple. The Bahá’í House of Worship, 27 marble petals, open to everyone and silent inside. Closed Mondays. 45 minutes.
Akshardham. A modern Hindu temple complex built in 2005 in traditional stone, with no steel or concrete in the structure. Closed Mondays. Electronics are not allowed inside and the cloakroom queue is slow, so allow 2–3 hours.
Suggested One Day Delhi Itinerary
Morning: start in Old Delhi while it is cooler – Red Fort, then Jama Masjid and a rickshaw through Chandni Chowk. Late morning: Raj Ghat. Lunch. Afternoon: India Gate and Rajpath, Humayun’s Tomb, then Qutub Minar. Evening: Lotus Temple or Akshardham.
That is a full day and assumes a Monday is avoided, since three of the sites close then. If you have two days, split Old Delhi and New Delhi and add Hauz Khas, Safdarjung’s Tomb and the National Museum.
Continuing on? Delhi pairs naturally with our Agra sightseeing tour and the full Golden Triangle tour package.
