Udaipur to Haldighati Taxi Service

Udaipur to Haldighati Taxi Service

Haldighati is 40 km north of Udaipur, about an hour away, and it is the most significant battlefield in Mewar history. On 18 June 1576, Maharana Pratap fought the Mughal army of Akbar in this narrow mountain pass – and the name comes from the soil, a yellow turmeric colour that gives the pass its character.

We run Udaipur to Haldighati taxi as a round trip half day, and more often as part of a full day combining Eklingji, Nathdwara and Haldighati, all of which sit on the same road north.

What There Is to See at Haldighati

Chetak’s cenotaph. Maharana Pratap’s horse carried him from the battlefield after being wounded and died shortly after. The memorial stands at Balicha, and for anyone who grew up with the story in Rajasthan it is the emotional centre of the site.

Maharana Pratap Museum. A privately run museum covering the battle, Mewar’s resistance and Pratap’s life, with dioramas, a light-and-sound presentation and displays of period weapons and armour. Allow an hour. It is more engaging than the word “museum” suggests, particularly for children.

The pass itself. The ground is the point. Pratap chose a narrow defile precisely because it denied Akbar’s much larger force room to deploy – standing in it, the tactics make immediate sense in a way no account conveys.

Rose and gulkand. Haldighati is known for its rose cultivation, and the local gulkand – rose-petal preserve – and rose water are sold along the road. Genuinely good, and the standard thing to bring back.

A Sensible Full Day

Haldighati alone is a half day, and most of our guests combine it. The order that works:

  1. Eklingji and Nagda – 22 km out, the 10th-century Shiva temple complex, early while it is quiet.
  2. Nathdwara – 48 km, Shrinathji Temple, timed to a darshan slot.
  3. Haldighati – the museum and Chetak’s cenotaph on the way back.

That is a comfortable day of roughly eight hours with one vehicle, and it covers the temple, the battlefield and the oldest Mewar shrine without rushing. See our Nathdwara taxi and Eklingji tour pages.

Frequently Asked Questions: Udaipur to Haldighati Taxi

Distance, what there is to see, and combining it with Nathdwara.

How far is Haldighati from Udaipur?
About 40 km, roughly an hour by road heading north. Eklingji sits at the 22 km mark on the same route.
What happened at Haldighati?
The Battle of Haldighati was fought on 18 June 1576 between Maharana Pratap of Mewar and the Mughal army sent by Akbar. Pratap chose the narrow pass deliberately, because it stopped a much larger force from deploying properly. Neither side achieved a decisive result, and Pratap continued his resistance from the hills for years afterwards.
Is Haldighati worth visiting?
If you have any interest in Rajput history, yes. The Maharana Pratap museum is better than most privately run museums and works well for children, and standing in the pass makes the tactics of the battle immediately clear. If you have no interest in the history, it is a pleasant hour and not much more.
How much is a taxi from Udaipur to Haldighati?
Quoted on our per-kilometre rates – from ₹12/km for a sedan, ₹16/km for an Ertiga or Innova – with fuel, driver allowance, tax and toll included. A half-day round trip with waiting is the usual booking; call +91 86193 15547 for a firm figure.
Can I combine Haldighati with Nathdwara and Eklingji?
Yes, and it is how most of our guests do it. All three sit on the same road north of Udaipur, and the full day takes about eight hours: Eklingji first, then Nathdwara timed to a darshan slot, then Haldighati on the way back.
How long do I need at Haldighati?
Allow two hours for the museum, Chetak’s cenotaph and the pass. With the drive each way that makes a four to five hour half day from Udaipur.
What is Haldighati gulkand?
Rose-petal preserve made from the roses grown around Haldighati, sold along the roadside along with rose water. It is a local speciality and the usual thing visitors take home.
What is the best time to visit Haldighati?
October to March for comfortable weather. The rose season around February and March is a pleasant time to be in the area. Summer afternoons are hot and exposed, so an early start is better.
Is there an entry fee?
Yes, the Maharana Pratap museum charges an entry fee, paid separately from the taxi fare, with a small extra charge for the light-and-sound presentation. Our fare covers the vehicle, fuel, driver allowance, tax, toll and parking.
