Udaipur to Narlai Cabs

Udaipur to Narlai Cabs

Narlai is a village in Pali district, roughly 140 km and about three hours from Udaipur, sitting at the foot of a single enormous granite outcrop known as Elephant Hill. It is one of those places that exists on itineraries almost entirely because of where it sits – on the Udaipur–Jodhpur road, close to Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh – and stays on them because people who stop find it better than they expected.

We run Udaipur to Narlai cabs as a one-way drop at the village, as a round trip, and most often as a leg in a Udaipur–Ranakpur–Narlai–Jodhpur route.

Why People Stop at Narlai

Elephant Hill. A 350-foot granite dome rising straight out of the village, with a white elephant statue near the top and roughly 1,100 steps cut up to a small Shiva shrine. The climb takes 45 minutes to an hour and is best done at dawn, both for the temperature and for the view across the Aravallis and the village below.

The village itself. Narlai has old Jain and Hindu temples, stepwells and a working rural life that has not been rearranged for visitors. It is a good place to walk in the early evening.

Heritage stays. The village has a well-known heritage property converted from a former royal hunting lodge, which is the reason many international itineraries include Narlai at all. We drop at any property in the village – tell us which one and the driver will find it, because the lanes are narrow and unmarked.

Narlai as Part of a Route

Narlai is not a destination you travel 140 km for and return the same day – it works as a break or an overnight. The itinerary that makes sense:

Udaipur – Ranakpur – Narlai – Jodhpur. Leave Udaipur in the morning, stop at the Ranakpur Jain Temple with its 1,444 carved marble pillars, reach Narlai by afternoon, stay the night, climb Elephant Hill at dawn, then drive on to Jodhpur. Kumbhalgarh Fort can be added before Ranakpur if you start early.

That turns what would otherwise be a 250 km transfer day into two relaxed days covering a UNESCO fort, one of the finest Jain temples in India and a village most visitors never see.

One Way or Round Trip?

We quote both. On a one-way drop the car still has to return empty, and that empty leg – dead mileage – is built into most one-way fares in Rajasthan. Where we can pair your drop with a passenger travelling the other way it disappears and the fare comes down, which is why it is worth giving us a specific date rather than assuming the per-km rate times the distance is final.

What we will not do is quote one figure and add the return leg as a surprise at the end of the journey. See our Udaipur outstation taxi page for all routes.

How to Book

  1. Send the details. WhatsApp or email your date, pickup time, pickup address, passenger count and luggage.
  2. Get the quote. We reply with the vehicle and the fare, including any state permit charge if the route leaves Rajasthan.
  3. Confirm. A 25% advance holds the vehicle; Indian guests by bank transfer or UPI, international guests by PayPal or Wise.

Frequently Asked Questions: Udaipur to Narlai Cabs

Distance, Elephant Hill, and why Narlai works as a stop not a day trip.

How far is Narlai from Udaipur?
Roughly 140 km and about three hours, heading north-west through the Aravalli foothills towards Desuri. The last stretch is rural single-carriageway rather than highway, so the time is a little longer than the distance suggests.
Is Narlai worth visiting?
As a stop or an overnight between Udaipur and Jodhpur, yes – the Elephant Hill climb at dawn is genuinely worthwhile and the village is unpolished in a good way. As a day trip from Udaipur and back, no; you would spend six hours driving for an afternoon in a small village.
What is Elephant Hill at Narlai?
A 350-foot granite dome rising out of the village, with about 1,100 steps cut into it leading to a small Shiva shrine near the top and a white elephant statue. The climb takes 45 minutes to an hour and is best at dawn, before the heat and for the view over the Aravallis.
How much is a cab from Udaipur to Narlai?
Quoted on our per-kilometre rates – from ₹12/km for a sedan, ₹16/km for an Ertiga or Innova – with fuel, driver allowance, state tax and toll included. A one-way drop and a multi-day route price differently, so call +91 86193 15547 with your plan.
Can I combine Narlai with Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh?
Yes, and that is the itinerary we would recommend. Ranakpur is about 45 km from Narlai and Kumbhalgarh about 60 km, so Udaipur – Kumbhalgarh – Ranakpur – Narlai makes a full and satisfying day with an overnight at the end of it.
How far is Narlai from Jodhpur?
About 130 km, roughly two and a half hours, which is what makes it such a natural halfway stop on the Udaipur–Jodhpur route.
Can you drop me at my hotel in Narlai?
Yes. Tell us the property name when you book – the village lanes are narrow and poorly signed, so it is worth our driver knowing the destination in advance rather than working it out on arrival.
What vehicle suits this route?
An Ertiga or Innova is the sensible minimum with luggage, because the final stretch is rural road rather than highway. A sedan manages it fine but is less comfortable. Innova Crysta if you are continuing to Jodhpur or Jaisalmer afterwards.
What is the best time to visit Narlai?
October to March. The dawn climb up Elephant Hill is far more pleasant in winter, and the Aravalli foothills are at their best after the monsoon, from late September onwards.
