This is the western Rajasthan route – the lake city, the blue city and the desert fort – and seven days is the length at which it stops feeling like a transfer schedule. Two nights in Udaipur, the Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh road to Jodhpur, two nights there, then the long run out to Jaisalmer and the dunes.

The Udaipur–Jodhpur day is the good one: Ranakpur’s 1,444 carved marble pillars and Kumbhalgarh’s 36 km of wall both sit on that road, so you see two of Rajasthan’s best sites on what would otherwise be a transfer.

One planning note. If you are flying out rather than driving back, leaving from Jaisalmer or Jodhpur saves you a long day. Jaisalmer to Udaipur direct is 490 km and better split over two days than attempted in one.

Day 1: Udaipur Sightseeing – The City of Lakes.

Day 6: Experience the Thar Desert of Jaisalmer with Jeep & Camel Safari

  • Check-out from the Hotel and Visit Gadisar Lake.

Day 7: Jaisalmer to Jodhpur – Blue City

  • On the way Visit to Jaisalmer War Museum
  • Lunch at Marwar Restaurant
  • Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing.
  • Depart from Jodhpur with sweet memories and bag full of souvenirs.

Where This Route Can Be Stretched

Add a night at Jawai between Udaipur and Jodhpur for leopard country – granite hills and a growing number of safari camps. Add Bikaner after Jaisalmer, 330 km on, for Junagarh Fort and the camel breeding farm, which makes it a 9 or 10 day route. Add Mount Abu before Udaipur if you are arriving from Gujarat.

How long is the Udaipur Jodhpur Jaisalmer route?
About 1,050 km of driving across seven days. The individual legs are 250 km Udaipur to Jodhpur and 285 km Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, so no single day is punishing – and the Udaipur–Jodhpur day includes Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh as stops rather than detours.
Is 7 days enough for Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer?
Yes, comfortably. Two nights in each city gives you a full sightseeing day plus arrival and departure, which is the right balance. Six days works if you cut one Udaipur night; eight or more lets you add Jawai or Bikaner.
Should I fly back from Jaisalmer or drive to Udaipur?
Fly from Jaisalmer or Jodhpur if you can. Jaisalmer to Udaipur direct is 490 km and eight to nine hours, which is a hard way to end a holiday. If you must drive it, split it over two days with a night at Jodhpur or Jawai.
What are the stops between Udaipur and Jodhpur?
Ranakpur Jain Temple, with 1,444 carved marble pillars and no two alike, and Kumbhalgarh Fort, a UNESCO site with the second-longest continuous wall in the world. Both sit directly on the road, so they cost you time rather than distance.
Is the desert camp at Jaisalmer worth it?
For one night, yes – the dunes at Sam or Khuri at sunset, dinner and folk music under canvas. Two nights in a camp is usually one too many. Camp and camel safari charges are not included in the tour fare and are booked separately.
What is the best time of year for this itinerary?
October to March. The desert leg is the constraint: Jaisalmer is unbearable from April to June and genuinely cold on winter nights, so pack for both if you travel in December or January.
Do we keep the same car and driver throughout?
Yes, from your arrival in Udaipur to your final drop. On a 1,050 km route across three cities that matters – your luggage stays in the car and you are not briefing someone new each morning.
Can you add Jawai or Bikaner to this route?
Yes. Jawai fits between Udaipur and Jodhpur for leopard country; Bikaner adds 330 km after Jaisalmer for Junagarh Fort and the camel breeding farm. Either turns this into a 9 or 10 day trip, and we have a 9 nights 10 days version with Jawai already built in.
